Petrified wood from Indonesia is carefully chosen for its sculptural qualities and unique colors, and then skillfully carved into exceptional, one-of-a-kind vessel sinks.

Petrified wood forms when trees are buried in sediment or ash, and their organic material is replaced by minerals over millions of years. This process can result in petrified wood that is either solid or fragile, with a wide variety of colors depending on the minerals involved in the transformation.

More on the Process:

When a tree is buried in mud, volcanic ash, or other sediments, water saturates the wood, reducing oxygen levels and slowing down decay. Minerals such as manganese, carbon, silica, iron, and copper seep into the wood from the surrounding water and earth, leading to crystallization. Each mineral, or combination of minerals, results in different colors. For instance, the black hues present in the heartwood we select are a result of a combination of manganese, carbon, and iron, creating a very solid material.
